How much does Etsy take from a sale?
On a typical US sale with no ad attribution, Etsy keeps about 10–12% of the order total: $0.20 listing, 6.5% transaction on price plus shipping, and 3% + $0.25 payment processing. Add 15% Offsite Ads on attributed orders and it can pass 25%.
Does Etsy charge a fee on shipping?
Yes. The 6.5% transaction fee applies to shipping and gift wrap too, and payment processing is charged on the full amount the buyer pays. That is why 'free shipping' quietly costs you commission.
Is the Offsite Ads fee mandatory?
Optional under $10,000 in annual sales. Cross that threshold and Etsy makes it mandatory on attributed orders at 12% instead of 15%. You are never charged when the ad does not produce the sale.
Do I pay the listing fee again if an item does not sell?
Yes — listings renew automatically every four months at $0.20 until you deactivate them. Listings sold in bulk renew per item, so a 10-item order costs $2.00 in listing fees, not $0.20.
