Shopify Fee Calculator

Shopify has no per-sale commission, so it looks cheaper than a marketplace. But the subscription is payable whether you sell or not — split across your real monthly orders, it is a per-order cost most sellers never count.

Shopify fee questions

Does Shopify charge a transaction fee?

Not when you use Shopify Payments — you pay only card processing at 2.9% + 30¢ on Basic. Use an outside gateway and Shopify adds its own fee of 2% on Basic, 1% on Grow and 0.6% on Advanced.

What does the subscription really cost per order?

Divide the monthly plan by your order volume. At $39/month and 100 orders that is 39¢ an order; at 20 orders it is $1.95 an order, which can wipe out the margin on a cheap product.

Is Shopify cheaper than Etsy or eBay?

Per sale, usually yes — about 3% versus 10–14%. But Shopify gives you no traffic. Once you pay for ads, the real comparison is cost per acquisition against marketplace commission.
